CIVL 5560/6560 - Travel Demand Forecasting & Planning
This course aims to develop a solid understanding of sustainable transportation policy and planning analysis, including a firm mastery of the key quantitative methods and models applied in practice. Substantive topics include: planning objectives and data requirements; planning inventories; travel demand forecasting, modeling of trip-making behavior, development and evaluation of alternate plans; cost-effectiveness evaluation, and multimodal applications. Additionally, students will utilize geographic information system (GIS) and statistical software to apply their knowledge to real-world applications. Prerequisites: CIVL 3510 and STAT 3010.

CIVL 5970/6970 - Transit Planning, Design, and Operation
This course provides a comprehensive analysis of the planning, design and operation of public transportation systems in urban settings. Important topics include: collecting, by-hand or from existing sources, data to measure transit performance; quantifying changes in capacity and reliability caused by changes in ITS and right-of-way; quantifying route-level transit service characteristics; describing factors influencing transit ridership and predicting demand for service in a region; scheduling vehicles and crews to maximize transit productivity; and selecting transit routes that meet the needs of the ridership. Prerequisites: CIVL 3510.

STAT 3010 - Statistics for Engineers and Scientists
This course will introduce students to different types of statistics and statistical methods. Students will then be able to determine which statistic and /or method is appropriate for a given situation. Emphasis will not be placed on memorizing formulas, but instead will be placed on applying statistics to real world engineering and science problems. Prerequisites: MATH 1610/1617/1710, “Calculus I” with a minimum grade of D.
